Mincher Lockett Opticians in Stafford and Gnosall are offering all under-12s free UV coating on all spectacles to protect their eyes against the harmful effects of UV radiation.
Joint owner and optometrist Jan Goodwin (pictured) said the dangers of UV to the skin were well known by parents but the damage sun exposure can cause to young eyes was less well publicised.
'Children are more at risk as they have bigger pupils which let in more damaging UV rays than an adult's. The shape of their faces also adds to the problem,' she said.
The offer is not a seasonal special but something that will be offered to all under-12s as it is such an important issue. See the UV supplement with this week's issue.
