The statistics were compiled from payments data provided by primary care trusts in England and local health boards in Wales during the assessed period.

The main results are:

? There were 5.32 million sight tests paid for by PCTs in England in the period April to September 2006. This was 3.1 per cent more than the total for the period October 2005 to March 2006 (5.16m) and 2.5 per cent more than the period April to September 2005 (5.19m)
