Practitioners support World Glaucoma Day

Independent optometrists and the multiples have been praised by the organisers of this year's World Glaucoma Day (March 12) for promoting to patients the importance of eye examinations in relation to diagnosis of glaucoma.

Last Thursday many practitioners around the country hosted 'open day' glaucoma clinics, producing special flyers and brochures to raise awareness of the condition as well as displaying posters in practice windows.

Faisal Ahmed, a glaucoma fellow at the Western Eye Hospital and a supporter of the annual event, commented: 'The big news that we wanted to get over to people this year was that you don't just go to an optician for glasses but you go there for eye health screening. The message was that even if you don't wear glasses you must undergo regular eye examinations.
