Practitioners urged to offer online CL option

Eye care practitioners need to offer contact lens wearers a choice of supply routes including online purchase via their own websites to counter loss of sales to the internet, delegates at the BCLA Business Day heard last weekend.

Incoming chairman of the Association of Contact Lens Manufacturers Cameron Hudson said: 'We know that more and more retail will take place online so it would appropriate for "bricks and mortar" business owners to review their retail strategies. If we know patients want to buy online, why wouldn't you have an online offering?'

Direct debit would be a key way to secure loyalty but patients should be able to buy from their practitioner via online stores open 24 hours a day and make transactions at any time they wanted, he said.
