High street practitioners are losing 10 per cent of contact lens patients to internet suppliers - with daily disposable wearers leading the migration.
Latest research by Optician and the Association of Contact Lens Manufacturers (ACLM) has found that 14 per cent of daily disposable lens wearers usually bought online, compared to 7 per cent of re-usable lens wearers.
The findings, from 222 British contact lens wearers, suggested price was the main reason patients bought online, followed by the convenience of doing so.
It was found that 83 per cent of contact lens patients were likely to buy contact lenses from a high street practice if they just charged for their time and matched internet prices. Despite this, only 13 per cent of patients had been offered price matching by their practitioner.
