A young tag rugby player has been stopped from playing in special prescription goggles after a sporting body banned them.

Seven year old Ryan Totten, from Northern Ireland, can no longer play the sport due to regulations imposed by the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU), reported BBC News Northern Ireland last week.

‘I’m really, really, really disappointed,’ the tearful schoolboy told the BBC.

The eyewear was not allowed at present due to health and safety reasons, but the IRFU was awaiting the outcome of a world rugby trial on such goggles.

Disability experts in the country said the policy was inconsistent with messages for children to be active and combat obesity.
