Pro Laser starts a revolution

u Pro Laser has launched a hand-held, retinal imaging system which it expects to have a \\"major\\" impact on the UK ophthalmic market.

The product, Scanoscope, is being marketed under the Rodenstock Instruments brand.
It is a light, mobile unit that can be attached to a slit lamp for both in-practice and domiciliary use. The system can be supplied with image-capture and archiving software for storage and digital manipulation, which makes it useful for consultation and teaching.
Scanoscope makes \\"pioneering\\" use of innovative video technology and is described as \\"unique\\" as it can record dynamic real-time images as well as conventional non-mydriatic still images in colour or mono.
Pro-Laser vice-president Barry Dibble said conventional methods of retinal imaging were limited to a static, momentary snapshot of the fundus.
\\"Only the Scanoscope delivers a real-time dynamic image that can be viewed and recorded continuously, which means that the results of angiography are immediately available for evaluation and treatment. The best news is that it is significantly less expensive than conventional systems, bringing high quality retinal imaging within the reach of even the smallest practice.\\"
Pro-Laser bought Rodenstock Instruments and Weco earlier this year for an undisclosed sum.
