Aston University optometrist Professor James Wolffsohn has developed a new mobile app, MyDryEye, designed to help people with dry eye disease manage their symptoms through targeted blinking exercises.
‘The research demonstrated that the most effective way to do the exercises is three times a day, 15 repeats of close, squeeze shut and reopen – just three minutes in total out of your busy lifestyle,’ Prof Wolffsohn said.
Study participants reported fewer incomplete blinks and a noticeable reduction in dry eye discomfort while following the routine.
In addition to guided exercises, MyDryEye allowed users to monitor symptoms, assess risk factors, set treatment reminders and locate nearby specialists.
