Approximately 300 new members of the College of Optometrists are expected to attend the Diploma Ceremony at Westminster's Central Hall on Wednesday January 31.

The event has moved from London's Guildhall, which is being refurbished. Westminster's Central Hall has throughout its history played host to events of national and international importance. Mahatma Ghandi, General de Gaulle and Winston Churchill have all addressed meetings at the venue.

The College said the ceremony is one of the most important events in its year, presenting an excellent opportunity to introduce new members and mark their achievement as they formally enter the profession.

It also provided the opportunity to recognise further achievement with the awarding of Higher Diplomas, including specialist diplomas in therapeutics.

Those who have made a significant contribution to the College, profession and wider world of optics are also honoured with the awarding of Life and Honorary Fellowships.
