Head optometrist at Tyrrells and Embery Opticians Haroon Ahmed and patient Yvonne Quinn have attempted to raise awareness of regular eye tests after warning signs of an eye tumour were spotted in practice.
Quinn made an appointment after she started seeing black spots and flashing lights. Ahmed spotted something unusual during the examination and immediately referred her to the specialist eye unit in Liverpool where she was quickly admitted for surgery. She was treated with a radiation plaque which was inserted behind her eye for a week but will need regular scans to make sure the cancer has not spread.
‘It’s so important that people understand the importance of routine eye exams regardless of their age or physical health,’ said Quinn.
