Ref offered assistance by pitch invader

Referees in football take a lot of stick

Referees in football take a lot of stick. It’s a hard job and, in a game at the start of the month, one Kidderminster Harriers supporter took to the pitch to offer the ref some assistance, albeit insincerely.

During Kidderminster’s game vs Leamington FC, a pitch invader went up to referee Kristian Silcock and offered him a pair of glasses after Silcock awarded Leamington a controversial penalty.

The fan, who has deliberately not been named, can be seen holding up a pair of spectacles to Silcock, who was explaining his decision to one of the home players.

Kidderminster, not seeing the funny side, has decided to ban the fan for life.

‘The club plans to issue a lifetime ban from all club facilities to one individual in the wake of Saturday’s game, after consultation with police,’ said a spokesperson for the club.

Despite his creative criticism of the ref receiving a few laughs, the fan will surely regret his brazen stunt and will have to watch his team on TV.
