Practitioners involved or interested in refractive surgery have the opportunity to extend their knowledge and skills through an innovative e-learning course.
The course, organised by Ulster University, is open to all eye care professionals and is designed to promote expertise in treatments currently unregulated internationally.
Dr Tara Moore, a lecturer in the School of Biomedical Science at Ulster University, has used part of a £50,000 National Teaching Fellowship from the Higher Education Academy to develop the online programme.
Supporting the initiative are consultant ophthalmologist Johnny Moore and past president of the British Society for Refractive Surgery Sunil Shah, who ‘spotted the need for internationally recognised standards and structured teaching in refractive surgery’.‘E-learning is particularly useful for busy clinicians who find it difficult taking time out of their schedules to attend a course,’ said Moore.
The flexible course, with two modules each lasting 12 weeks, consists of a series of lectures, live surgical videos, pod casts and assessments.
The second course begins in September and interested parties should contact Moore at: t.moore@ulster.ac.uk
