ReNu with MoistureLoc withdrawn in UK

Worldwide withdrawal of troubled contact lens solution sees ReNu with MoistureLoc taken off the shelves in the UK

Bausch & Lomb has removed its troubled Renu with MoistureLoc branded contact lens solution from sale around the world with immediate effect in an effort to allay customer concerns.
UK stocks of the product have been withdrawn today ( Monday May 15th 2006 ) and media adverts will alert users to the product’s recall.
A spokeswoman for the company said Renu with MoistureLoc had been ‘retired’ on a voluntary basis following the investigations about the product in Asia and the US.
She said an exchange programme would be put in place and customer who have bought the product would be able to take it back to their eye care professional and swap ReNu with MoistureLoc products for MoisturePlus or other products.
The spokeswoman said Bausch & Lomb would be supporting the eye care professional throughout the exchange process.
Renu with MoistureLoc products are stocked extensively by eye care practices in the UK including large groups such as Dollond & Aitchison.
In a global press statement Bausch & Lomb Chairman and CEO Ronald L. Zarrella said the company’s top priority was the safety of its customers and it wanted them to have complete confidence in its products.
Bausch & Lomb suggested that former MoistureLoc users switch to ReNu MultiPlus or ReNu Multi-Purpose, the brands more people worldwide have chosen for their contact lens care.
Bausch & Lomb introduced the MoistureLoc formula in late 2004.  The product contributed approximately $100m to B&L’s global sales in 2005.
