Johnson & Johnson claims its UV blocker Norblo has antioxidant properties

Johnson & Johnson has presented findings at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) Annual Meeting in Hawaii that claimed antioxidant properties for its UV blocker Norblo.

All Acuvue branded contact lenses use Norblo to block UV, but J&J said its research, through two different methods, showed Norblo had antioxidant properties which provided protection for the tear film during contact lens wear.

Charles Scales, principal scientist and leader of the scientific evidence team within global medical affairs, said: ‘In these studies, Norbloc exhibited antioxidant properties greater than many known biologically significant antioxidants.’

A second presentation looked at the density of crosslinking between polymer chains in silicone hydrogel materials. It suggested Acuvue Oasys 1 Day lenses showed lower muco-adhesion than delefilcon A, making it easier to remove.
