An increased risk of retinal vein occlusion has been found among patients living with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in a study published in Eye journal.
It identified that younger age and glaucoma predicted the development of retinal vein occlusion in patients with neovascular AMD.
Researchers said awareness of this comorbidity was of benefit for clinicians as patients with neovascular AMD could be carefully examined for signs and complications of retinal vein occlusion.
The study included 24,578 patients with neovascular AMD and 66,129 control subjects. It used multivariate cox regression analysis to detect the risk of retinal vein occlusion among patients with neovascular AMD.
