Two of the UK's leading retail optical groups have reorganised their professional services teams.

Boots Opticians has announced the appointment of Richard Edwards, currently head of learning and development, to expand his role to become director of professional services & learning.

Boots said Edwards, who has worked for the firm for more than 24 years, would ensure continuity while supporting professional staff.

David Cartwright will leave the position of professional services director after more than 31 years with Boots. Cartwright said he had enjoyed his time with the firm and would be looking to pursue interests inside and outside of optics.

He added: 'I have worked with Richard for some years and I know that I leave the professional services area in good hands.'

Andy Ferguson, managing director of Boots Opticians, said: 'I would like to thank David for all his support and for the great level of service and dedication he has given to Boots Opticians over an incredible 31 years in the business.'

Vision Express has appointed Dr Rob Hogan as professional services consultant. Dr Hogan has a wealth of experience in professional services management from roles with Boots and D&A. He is currently a consultant and holds posts with the College of Optometrists and the General Optical Council.

Omar Hassan has been appointed head of professional services. Optometrist Hassan has worked with Vision Express as both a joint venture partner and a locum. He is also an optometric adviser with two primary care trusts.
