The warning has come as the charity begins a five-month public information roadshow aimed at improving awareness of the importance of the nation’s sight.

The RNIB is launching the 12-city UK tour as part of its Open Your Eyes campaign which aims to bring an end to preventable sight loss in the UK by 2020. Steve Winyard, RNIB head of campaigns, said: ‘Half of all sight loss is avoidable.
