‘Hygge’ was the theme for Rodenstock’s annual Club Awards ceremony at the St Pancras Hotel in London this week, where German comedian Henning When provided the entertainment.
The firm’s most successful high street practices were rewarded with a trip to Bermuda, with Nicklins Opticians in Guildford, Surrey, picking up the main Centre of Excellence accolade and a Sun Protect eyewear prize.
Rodenstock UK’s Danish managing director Niels Jensen explained the importance of ‘hygge’ – a Danish term describing a feel-good ambience – to independent practitioners. He added this was the last year Club award winners would be treated to an overseas holiday, due to new legislation.
‘There is a desire among consumers to buy locally and this is the same for independent opticians,’ Jensen told the audience, explaining Rodenstock marked its 140 year anniversary in 2017. ‘I sense there is a strong determination to serve customers like we did many years ago.’
