Rodenstock sells Weco and forms alliance with purchaser

Rodenstock has sold its interests in its lens processing equipment manufacturer, Weco, and formed an 'alliance' with the Israeli company which has bought it. The German firm Rodenstock, which has a UK subsidiary in Kent, has also sold its optical instrument manufacturer and distributor, G Rodenstock Instrumente, to the same company, Pro-Laser, which is sited in Rosh-Ha'ayin, Israel. The deal, which was completed on August 31, gives Rodenstock a shareholding in the high-tech, public Israeli company which specialises in lens inspection and measurement systems. Pro-Laser, founded in 1992, will be responsible for the operational management of the new agreement between the two companies. A Rodenstock spokesman said: 'We consider our interests in the optical instrument and lens processing equipment and machinery sector, which is not part of the core business, to be sufficiently guaranteed. 'Existing co-operation agreements for the distribution of our products will remain in effect. Rodenstock is thus consistently pursuing its strategy of concentrating its activities on the core business.' Weco was bought by Rodenstock in 1978.
