The purchase of Weco Optical Machines has secured the future of one of the worldÕs leading edging equipment manufacturers, WecoÕs sole UK agent Pro Laser UK has claimed.Belgian group Buchmann Optical Holding (BOH) completed the purchase from Pro Laser International this month after BOH had taken a 51 per cent stake in Weco last year. The deal has been made through BOHÕs French subsidiary Briot, of which Rochester-based Pro Laser UK is a subsidiary.Jacky Buchmann, BOHÕs chairman, said his business would capitalise on the synergies between Briot and the newly purchased company: ÔWecoÕs future is now financially secure.ÔWith new leadership and financial resources, we will revitalise the Weco organisation to optimise its valuable assets base that includes state-of-the-art product development and manufacturing capabilities together with new products.ÕBarry Dibble, managing director of Pro Laser UK, said: ÔThis heralds a new era in the development of our business and we look forward to accelerating our ambitious plans for growth.ÕMr Dibble revealed that the agreement would accelerate the manufacture of machine parts Ôwhich will enable us to turn around the back order situation quicklyÕ. Weco was sold by Rodenstock in 1999 (News, September 10, 1999) to Pro Laser International. The lens processing equipment manufacturer had been bought by Rodenstock in 1978.Pro Laser UK is an agent for Briot Instruments, and is also the exclusive agent for Rodenstock Instruments and for Henson, supplier of visual field analysers.
