Siltint Industries has launched a new high-performance ophthalmic reflection-free coating in Safire 2.
The company said this came after extensive research and development that involved major investments in new machinery and process technology. The end result was better optical performance, greater durability and ease of care for the end user.
It added that the new lens preparation process ensured that all lenses had a pristine hard-coated surface on which to apply the new advanced eight-layer Safire 2 coating process.
'Siltint's plasma deposition process produces a coating which is mechanically and chemically integrated onto the lens to ensure a secure bond with the lens surface, with an average light transmission factor higher than 99 per cent,' said Siltint.
It is suitable for all types of plastic lenses and a special version, Safire 2 PC, has been developed for polycarbonate lenses.
Commercial director Adam Brierley (pictured below left, with production manager Paul Hesford) said: 'The advanced features built into Safire 2 are a direct result of our work in the precision optics sector. The high average light transmission of Safire 2 improves clarity of vision and its enhanced hydrophobic and oleophobic (smear resistant) properties make cleaning easy and increase wear resistance and durability.'
Safire 2 will replace both Siltint's reflection-free coating brands, Safire and Aquaclear, and is available immediately on customers' lenses (edged or uncut) or on lenses of customer's choice from Siltint Lens Supply.
