Sarah Burchett picks up prize

Director of Specsavers Guernsey, Sarah Burchett, has been awarded optometrist of the year at the Macular Society’s national Awards for Excellence.

Guernsey Macular Society support group co-founder Bill Gardiner nominated Burchett without her knowledge.

Chairman John Dunston said she was nominated for her willingness to raise awareness of macular conditions. He added: ‘She also regularly raises money for the Society and the Judges said she had demonstrated exceptional commitment to community engagement.’

Throughout March 2016, the Specsavers store donated £1 to the society from every eye test carried out.

Burchett said: ‘It was one of the most inspirational events I have ever attended, and receiving the award on behalf of the store team was very humbling.’
