The Garden Room project gives deafblind people the opportunity to enter the world of work, teaching them skills needed to produce wooden furniture, pottery and jewellery. It is used by 90 sensory-impaired people and has expanded its service in an estimated £100,000 move from Oldbury to a new site in Smethwick.
Scrivens marketing director Andrea Callaway said of the support for Sense: 'As an optical and hearing care business, we have a natural link to their work, as we deal with the hard of hearing and/or visually challenged on a day-to-day basis from our network of branches.'
Catrin Edwards, corporate partnerships fundraiser at Sense, explained that the project had broadened employment opportunities for participants. The current building was no longer adequate because of inadequate wheelchair access and lack of space.
