Responsibility for fraudulent use of credit cards passes directly to the retailer with legislation that comes into force in 2005. Retailers face the need to reduce credit card fraud or accept the costs incurred, warns SDS.
EFTPoS will also cut administration costs and potential errors when linked to SDSÕs practice software system. Real time electronic banking authorisation ensures that the user has the relevant funds or credit to cover the costs, and the local card validation aspect of the scheme ensures that the card has not been tampered with or stolen.
The facility to check that the credit card has not been stolen, or produced and used fraudulently, is achieved via the Address Verification Service (AVS) and adds to the security provided by SDSÕs EFTPoS module.
