The appointment of the replacement for outgoing GOC chief executive and registrar Peter Coe will be made in January 2009 after the Appointments Commission has recruited the Council's new chair and board members for the smaller or 'board-like' Council.

As reported in Optician, (News, March 14 2008), Coe announced he was to retire from his post at the end of July 2008 when he reached his 60th birthday. The Council said at the time it supported Coe's view that this was the appropriate time for him to hand over to a new chief executive in preparation for a newly constituted Council.

Optician understands that an advertising campaign to recruit the new chair and board members will begin in September. The new chair will have input in the recruitment of Coe's replacement which will be done in conjunction with the Appointments Commission.
