In almost all, if not all, areas of the country, I would suggest that a patient phoning around could obtain a sight test if not on the same day, then within the week.
Shouldn't we therefore question this 'shortage of optometrists' and perhaps think more about the motives of those pushing for increased numbers to be trained? Andrew Jarvis Stalybridge, Cheshire
