Sisters to run marathon for RNIB

Charity

Intensive care nurse Bridie Starr was running the TCS London Marathon on April 21 for the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) in aid of her daughter, Mia.

Three year old Mia lost her sight overnight at 16 months old after being diagnosed with the genetic condition neurofibromatosis type 1 with tests and scans revealing a collection of tumours along her optic pathway.

Starr would be accompanied on the marathon by her sister, Cheryl, a change analyst at Specsavers, to support the RNIB’s mission to raise awareness about the challenges blind and partially sighted people face every day.

‘I want Mia to grow up in a world where she can access, and experience things, just like everyone else. That’s why we’ve chosen to run for RNIB because the charity wants to create a world without barriers for people living with sight loss. It’s a cause very close to our hearts,’ Starr said.
