Specsavers funds more upskilling

The multiple has increased funding and spaces available for ECPs

Specsavers has increased the amount of funding and spaces available for eye care professionals who want to gain additional qualifications.

Giles Edmonds, clinical services director at Specsavers, said: ‘We know our clinicians love enhanced optical services and the range of development opportunities on offer, so we're making a big investment here. We're going to go shoulder to shoulder on professional certificates for medical retina and glaucoma in the UK and Ireland as well as for independent prescribing courses in Scotland and Wales.’

The multiple offered 500 places last year but increased it to 1,000 in 2023 and set targets to increase the number of clinical technicians to two in each community practice.

The Certificate 3 and 4 (BTEC) courses have also been restructured and will now be modular, based on roles in practices such as dispensing, clinical and lab technicians.
