Specsavers highlights patient loneliness

Research Multiples

Specsavers Home Visits threw a surprise party for residents at the Meadows Care Home in Leicestershire, providing an afternoon of live music, singing, food and conversation.

In research conducted by the multiple, 1000 people aged 65 years and over (91%) were found to be elderly people and said loneliness is a significant problem among their generation.

Two in three older adults had experienced loneliness and more than half (54%) admitted they had gone days without interacting with anyone, demonstrating the need for greater support.

Rizwan Desai, ophthalmic partner at Specsavers Home Visits, said: ‘We know that many of our older patients experience loneliness and want to do as much as we can to foster a sense of community and connection, beyond helping them with their vision and hearing.

‘It was wonderful to see the residents, their family members and the care home staff at The Meadows enjoy the surprise together. Our team had a great time and always look forward to spending time with our care home patients.’
