Scottish students visit Specsavers’ stand at Skills Scotland Aberdeen

More than 1,000 Scottish students visited Specsavers’ stand at Skills Scotland Aberdeen.

The event was held on November 6 and the stand featured the RNIB and Specsavers Eye Pod, an OCT machine and simulation spectacles that simulate symptoms of common eye conditions. Attendees also had the chance to talk to optometrists and joint venture partners from local Specsavers practices to find out what it’s like to work there.

Early Careers manager Lucy Knock said: ‘Coming to the north of Scotland to engage with local students, parents and teachers is particularly important for us, as this part of the country is especially in need of optometrists to serve local communities. We are keen to highlight the potential opportunity to study optometry locally at a new course in the area. The University of the Highlands and Islands is hoping to offer optometry next September, providing all requirements for General Optical Council accreditation are met.’
