Specsavers offers online CL service

Specsavers Opticians has become the first multiple retailer to offer online and direct-mail contact lens services to all optical patients, not just their own.
The services, Lensmail.com and Lensmail DM, accept prescriptions from any practitioner Ð customers do not have to be SpecsaversÕ patients. The discount for ordering via the internet is at least 10 per cent.
The new services cover a similar product range to Lensmail home delivery Ð including daily disposables, continuous wear lenses, torics and varifocals. A free customer helpline is available seven days a week. Orders for most lens types are despatched within 24 hours of customer prescription verification. Delivery is via the Royal Mail and can be to the customerÕs home or place of work as preferred.
A spokeswoman stressed that both services had been ÔmeticulouslyÕ designed with Ônumerous safety controls, checks and re-checks to ensure they comply with professional eye care standards and provide high quality customer serviceÕ.
The company says the services have been set up with Ôspecial attentionÕ paid to the practitionersÕ involvement. ÔThese services have been designed in close consultation with optometrist directors of Specsavers practices.
ÔComprehensive prescription validation is carried out before despatch. Exhaustive efforts have been made to ensure compliance with standards of professional supervision,Õ she added.
The new services complement SpecsaversÕ Lensmail home delivery service, which has more than 250,000 subscribers in the UK and Ireland.

The home delivery service has provided the opportunity to test and validate the process which now underpins the new services to ensure they deliver a high degree of precision and accuracy in a high volume environment.
