The only clue to the assault, which took place in Nottingham is a pair of Calvin Klein spectacles left at the scene. The attacker, a white man in his 30s, grabbed the 20-year old woman around her neck, pushed her to the ground and assaulted her. Passers-by disturbed him, and as he fled his spectacles were knocked off by his victim. As yet the police have been frustrated in their attempts to trace the owner of the spectacles through the optical profession. 'We have received valuable help from Calvin Klein, but that's as far as it's got,' said DC Bridget Bacon. 'They [Calvin Klein] told us who they supplied this frame to, but unfortunately most opticians have a card or computer system which is accessed via a name. They cannot look in the opposite direction, by searching via a frame or prescription, thus coming up with a name.' She added that the spectacles were 'an unusual clue', but police investigations have so far drawn a blank. Nottingham police stated that the spectacles were worth around &\#163;350 (retail) and had a metal frame with tortoiseshell-style rims. Other details include: Style 112, colour 471 and 140 side length. The prescription is R -4.75/-1.25x5; L -6.25/-2.00x163. The lenses are believed to be produced by Hoya, but police have yet to confirm this. A number of witnesses are ready to identify the assailant, and the police said they believed he would be at a loss without the spectacles. Det Sgt Baxter has appealed locally to encourage the assailant's family and friends to call him if they have noticed that the man's designer spectacles have gone missing. He confirmed that the police were treating the incident as an attempted rape, with six officers assigned to the case. The assault took place at around 9pm on December 14.
