New legislation taking effect on October 1 for other retail goods was designed to modernise consumer rights, the OC said.

The cooling off period, also known as the right of withdrawal for optical patients, has been extended by two weeks for distance and off-premises contracts.

Distance contracts were defined as contracts concluded over other mediums such as the internet or the telephone.
