'Johnson & Johnson Vision Care takes the health of patients extremely seriously. We wish to make the following points in the interest of patient health:
'Contact lenses are medical devices and their use and labelling, including the wearing and replacement schedules are governed by the regulatory authorities based on clinical results and eye health.
'Clinical studies have demonstrated that daily disposable contact lenses are the healthiest way to wear contact lenses when compared to other lens wearing schedules. If patients extend the wear schedule of 1-Day Acuvue beyond its labelled intended use as a daily disposable lens, they will forgo these health benefits as well as the visual and convenience benefits associated with daily disposable wear.
'While our products 1-Day Acuvue, Acuvue 2, and Surevue are made of the same material, they are different lenses in design, thickness, shape and size and are priced differently. The products require a prescription, are not inter-changeable and each requires individual fitting and a recommended wearing schedule by the patient's eye care professional. Our most recently introduced Acuvue products (Acuvue Advance with Hydraclear, Acuvue Advance for astigmatism and Acuvue Oasys with Hydraclear Plus are manufactured from new silicone hydrogel materials.'
