Student erased after fraud

Student optometrist Talha Hassan was removed from GOC registers after a fitness to practise committee ruled his failure to disclose a police caution constituted misconduct.

It was alleged Hassan failed to declare his caution for fraud by false representations in his 2009 and 2010 retention applications. Hassan was alleged to have made false statements to ambulance crews and doctors after a staged traffic accident in 2008 and subsequently made an untruthful claim to an insurance company. He was given a police caution in January 2009.

The committee said it was satisfied that his conduct was not compatible with being a registered member of the profession.
