Student given interim order

Student dispensing optician Andrew Davies has been given an interim order by the GOC but allowed to continue working under supervision.

A fitness to practise committee heard that in October 2010 Davies was cautioned by South Wales police after he was found to be in possession of a controlled substance. In January 2011, Davies was also apprehended on suspicion of burglary and drink-driving. He pleaded guilty to drink-driving and criminal damage and received a fine at Cardiff Magistrates Court.

The committee said it was necessary for the protection of the public that an interim order should be made.

Davies' representation made no objection.

Davies has recently returned to work at Armstrong & North Opticians. The committee received two letters from his employer, David Armstrong, supporting the 'excellent' work that Davies had done.
