Student OO suspended

Student optometrist Nadia Sham was given an interim suspension order by the General Optical Council's fitness to practise committee.

The committee ordered that Sham be suspended for a period of 18 months from the hearing date in December, to be reviewed within six months.

It heard matters relating to the falsification of two patient records between January and February 2011 while Sham was an employee of Boots Opticians.

The committee considered the allegations 'particularly grave involving potential risk to the safety of the patients concerned'. Sham, currently working as an optical assistant, did not dispute the matters.
