A General Optical Council fitness to practise committee review hearing has ruled an 18-month interim suspension order placed on Nadia Sham in December 2011 should remain in place.
Sham was suspended after it was alleged she falsified two patient records between January and February 2011 while working as a student optometrist. At the time, the committee said the matters were particularly grave and involved potential risk to the safety of patients.
The committee said no new facts had been placed before the six-month review hearing which could have given rise to a change in the order and no submissions for changes had been made by the registrant.
It added that Sham, now employed as an optical assistant, had kept her knowledge up to date by attending courses and reading articles.
