GOC extends suspension

Fitness to practice

A General Optical Council (GOC) fitness to practise committee has reviewed the conditional registration order and subsequent suspension of optometrist Mark Morgan after he was found to have dishonestly recorded tonometry examinations on patients over a prolonged period of time.

The Council had placed an interim conditional registration order on Morgan in March 2011, but in June called for a review after it was alleged that he had worked outside of the conditions imposed. Morgan was found guilty and suspended for six months.

In light of no practical and workable solutions being submitted by the registrant or the GOC at last week's hearing, the committee ruled the order should remain in place for another six months.
