OO suspension continues

A General Optical Council (GOC) fitness to practise committee review hearing has ruled an interim suspension order imposed on optometrist Ajmer Wahiwala at a private hearing in November 2011 should remain in place.

The committee said it had carefully reviewed the evidence, which included an expert's report prepared on behalf of the council, and stated there was nothing to suggest concerns identified at the last hearing no longer existed. 'Should the registrant return to practice, there would be a significant risk of serious harm to patients,' it said. The application to continue the suspension order was not opposed by the registrant.

The order will be reviewed in six months.
