Student optometrist Courtney Lee Jones has been suspended for twelve months by the GOC for dishonest behaviour after he took funds from a charity box.
The GOC reported that while working as an optical assistant the Plymouth-based student had removed a manual from his work without asking the owner’s permission, and taken £10 from a charity box. He returned the money once he was aware its removal had been discovered.
Committee chair Pamela Ormerod said: ‘The committee considered that the facts found proved in the allegations were deliberate and amounted to a pattern of dishonest behaviour. The committee considered that the registrant had abused trust, attempted to conceal his wrongdoing and brought suspicion on his colleagues. Further, the committee considered that the registrant’s actions were for financial gain.’
