Fitness to practice
Student dispensing optician Andrew Uttley has been suspended for 12 months by the General Optical Council after he took monies belonging to his employer

Student dispensing optician Andrew Uttley has been suspended for 12 months by the General Optical Council after he took monies belonging to his employer.

He was employed as assistant manager at Formby Visionplus, trading as Specsavers, a GOC fitness to practise committee heard.

The GOC reported that the student stole various sums of money on 20 occasions between May and November 2012, amounting to a total of £1,111.

He was later interviewed by representatives of Specsavers Loss Prevention Department, when the GOC said he ‘made full and frank admissions to stealing the money and apologised for his conduct’.

A statement by the GOC said the thefts amounted to a serious departure from what was expected of an employee, and the committee rules his fitness to undertake training as a dispensing optician was currently impaired.
