The first set of OSCE exams for those wishing to qualify as an optometrist was completed this week at the Royal College of General Practitioners' offices in Croydon.
In total, 308 pre-registration optometrists passed through, each completing a variety of tasks as they went around 17 stations, designed to assess competencies relevant to their pre-registration year.
After several previous pilot runs, the objective structured clinical examination went very smoothly and was deemed a success by the College of Optometrists which co-ordinates the exams.
Director of education Jo Mullin said: 'I am delighted that the first Scheme for Registration OSCEs has run so smoothly and that feedback from examiners and trainees has been very positive.'
