Study reveals success of child CL fits

After 10 years of contact lens wear, patients are equally successful wearing contact lenses whether they were first fitted as children or as teenagers, according to research presented at last week's Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) meeting.

The study, supported by Johnson & Johnson, found that when first fitted as a child or as a teenager, wearers were similarly comfortable and compliant, and reported similar frequency of adverse events while wearing contact lenses.

Co-author Jeffrey Walline of Ohio State University College of Optometry said: 'A growing body of research has already established the many benefits and safety of paediatric contact lens wear. This study further demonstrates that fitting children at younger ages has no harmful long-term effects.'
