Dispensing optician John Snelgrove from St Albans has secured partial funding for his Style-Eyes spectacle project built around the buy-one-donate-one idea and is looking for backers to take the concept onto the next phase.
The venture is centred around an adaptable, modular spectacle design that can be sold in the developed world and used in developing countries.
For every pair sold another will be donated to a visually impaired person in the Third World through an NGO.
Snelgrove said the idea was driven by his desire to offer stylish vision correction to the millions in the world who do not have access to prescription eyewear. He has trade-marked the Style-Eyes frame product and it is covered by patents around the world to protect its intellectual property rights.
