The GOC is to have a clause inserted in the Opticians Act to deal with brand substitution 'at the earliest opportunity', practitioners attending a BCLA meeting on the interpretation of the Section 60 laws, were told.
The meeting which took place in London last week was held to discuss the recent publication of the revised guidance from ABDO and the College of Optometrists on rules surrounding the sale and supply of contact lenses.
For powered lenses, new guidance was included on lens substitution. It specified that if the supplier is unable to supply lenses that exactly meet the specification, refitting is required before an alternative lens is supplied.
