Former ITV newscaster John Suchet recently launched an event to help promote visual aids to patients with low vision at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.

The aim of the low vision day was to demonstrate to patients visual aids and equipment such as CCTVs, magnifiers, talking/reading aids, computer programs and telephones.

Sarah Janikoun, an ophthalmologist at St Thomas' Hospital, said: 'There is a vast need in the community for extra help for visually impaired people and I hope that this low vision day will become an annual event.'

John Suchet met patients and volunteers at St Thomas' low vision clinic who helped to demonstrate non-visual aids including talking books, microwaves and liquid level indicators.
