A GOC fitness to practise committee has replaced an interim suspension order placed on optometrist Matthew Clemitson on December 16, 2008 with conditional registration, taking effect for the remainder of the term.
Clemitson's registration was suspended for 18 months after he admitted to theft from the practice in which he worked. Since the previous hearing, Clemitson has appeared before a magistrate's court where he was fined, made to pay costs as well as compensation of £500.
The committee was satisfied that since the first interim order, Clemitson has made 'every effort to deal with his underlying problems' reflected by the fact that he has found new employment and has also been promoted to team manager indicating the trust of his employer.
