Technomaniacs put vision at risk

Most of our time is now spent looking at a screen, research commissioned by Sight Care has found.

A study found that on average 77 per cent of the day was being spent gazing at screens, with a third of people admitting to checking their phone or tablet within 10 minutes of waking up. Sight Care said three quarters of 16-34 year-olds exhibited what it called 'technomaniac' tendencies, and were said to be putting their eyes and personal relationships at risk.

Sight Care chief executive Paul Surridge said: 'As each new technological device that enters the market becomes the must-have accessory, everyday lives are being spent moving from one gadget to another, putting constant stress and strain on the eyes.'
