A third of Optimax clinics are at risk of closure, Optician understands.

Staff at ten of the group's 28 clinics have been notified by memo of the closures but remain in the dark on patient care. Up to 200 jobs could be at risk.

A member of Optimax staff, who wished to remain anonymous, told Optician that the Newcastle, Hull, Chester, Nottingham, Ipswich, Southend, Croydon, Reading and Brighton clinics were to be closed by mid-July. The tenth clinic was not disclosed.

The potential closures could have significant impact on post-operative care. Patients at the Newcastle clinic could have to travel to either Leeds or Glasgow for follow up appointments. The member of staff told Optician that no details of post-operative patient care had been discussed with the workforce in the memo.
